The Uinta County Business Leadership Network has made a tremendous impact on educating the community on all the possibilities of hiring people with or without disabilities. I would like to take a moment and tell you about an employee we are lucky enough to have at Aspen Grove Nursery. Tom Anson has worked for us at the nursery for over six years. It is Tom’s job to water our shrubs, perennials, and annuals. Tom always takes great pride and care when doing his job as he realizes just what an important part of his role is in the nursery business. It’s not just about putting water on plants but about really caring for the plants and Tom is becoming an expert at that.
Tom is the kind of employee every business loves to have. He always shows up to work, he is always on time and he always comes to work with
a good attitude and a smile—what more could you ask for?
Tom was nominated and shared winning the 2011 Employee of the Year at the Symon Awards the Uinta County Business Leadership and MentorABILITY programs put on in October to recognize the importance of hiring people with disabilities. Tom, along with numerous other employees in the community, has proved the only disability he has is just not getting the chance to prove himself. Everyone deserves a chance and sometimes if you just take that chance as an employer you can find an employee like Tom who has proved himself to be a valuable asset at our business.
