Somewhere I read the story of starfish thrower who would walk along the beach throwing stranded starfish back into the ocean. Someone approached him and said, what you are doing will not make a difference as there are thousands of them stranded on the beach. The man picked up another starfish and threw it back in the water then said: “It made a difference to that one”.
Just like starfish thrower, we all can make a difference in other people’s lives by providing the opportunity.
Providing opportunities for people with disability is the mission of the Uinta County Business Leadership Network. Dedication of UCBLN supporters and volunteers to this cause has educated many of us in the business world about the needs and concerns of people with disabilities in our community. Their advocacy and commitment have helped many people with disabilities to be part of different organizations in our community and to enjoy a full and productive life.
This is a task that we all could have a part in. As an advocate and someone who has had the privilege of working with people with disabilities for many years, I believe that everyone with a disability deserves the chance and has the right to be part of the world around them.
Stevie Wonder once said, “We all have the ability; the difference is how we use it”. As a business leader, your support of the Uinta County Business Leadership Network not only is appreciated, it will ensure the continuation of their mission. Let us all together make that difference.
